GRASSROOTS SERVES CHILDREN IN CRISIS: AN OVERVIEW AND CRAFT PROJECT
Program
Grassroots provides emergency shelter to families including children experiencing homelessness. Last year, Grassroots shelter programs served 221 children in their shelter programs providing a safe place to stay as their families work to transition from homelessness to stable housing. Grassroots provides activities for children including a “Play With Me” program in partnership with local high schools, kids “welcome kits”, children’s playroom and playground, arts and craft activities, tutoring program in partnership with HC schools, birthday parties, and other seasonal activities. Currently, Grassroots has 31 children in the shelter ranging in age from newborn to high school age.
Tikun Olam Craft Project
Attendees will decorate and stuff cuddly creatures that will be given to the children in the GRASSROOTS programs. Materials will be provided.
Speaker
Anna T. Katz is the Director of Grants and Support for the Grassroots Crisis and Intervention Center in Columbia. Anna will provide an overview of Grassroots programs including services to children and youth in need. Anna has worked for Grassroots since 1994 in a variety of roles related to fundraising, grant writing, operations, and community outreach. She has an MBA from American University in Washington, DC. She is a resident of Howard County along with her husband and adult children.
