Women of Bet Aviv will present a program on the life and music of Debbie Friedman (1951-2011) given by Cantor Margery Auerbach. We will learn about how Friedman’s music changed the face and sound of Jewish liturgical music. An early pioneer of gender sensitive language, participatory singing and combining of Hebrew and English texts, many of her compositions are now “traditional” songs in synagogues around the world. Her setting of the Mi Shebeirach healing prayer was central to creating meaningful healing services in all streams of Judaism.
Please join us for an enjoyable program of listening, learning and singing along to the music of Debbie Friedman, may her memory be a blessing.
