Sisterhood Shabbat June 2026

On June 12, 2026, Bet Aviv honored members of its Sisterhood, said goodbye to board members who were not returning and installed new members.  We watched a wonderful slide show created by Linda Feldmesser showing us highlights of Sisterhood programs during the past year. We are grateful to Jeri Lipov for capturing these beautiful photos to add to our memory of the day.

Comfort Cases June 2026

On June 4, 15 members packed backpacks at the Comfort Cases headquarters in Gaithersburg to support Social Action. Comfort Cases is an organization that provides backpacks with essential items to children entering foster care so that they don’t need to carry their belongings in trash bags.

Bird/Nature Walk

On May 31, several members of Bet Aviv participated in a Bird/Nature Walk at the Howard County Conservancy’s Mt. Pleasant area.  The walk was organized by Angela Fowler-Young and be led by Mike Kerwin, a Master Naturalist and an expert birder.

Men’s Club May 2026

On May 17, the Men’s Club  invited two speakers from “The Associated (Baltimore) Speaker’s Bureau who spoke about  “Aging with Grace and Dignity”.  The meeting was preceded by the Men’s Club Bagelicious Brunch.

Scholar In Residence Program

On May 9, Bet Aviv welcomed Rabbi Kari Tuling as our Scholar in Residence.  She led two thought-provoking programs for us: “Does G-d have a Gender?”  and How We Think About Authority”.  Thanks to Bill Salganik for capturing the memories of the day.

 Choir Shabbat 2026

On May 8, our Bet Aviv Choir, under the Direction of Michaela Wilson, led our Shabbat service along with Rabbi Joseph.  We have these wonderful memories thanks to Bill Salganik.

Shabbat Amongst Friends in Song

On April 24, 2026, Bet Aviv, along with CJC, KN, the Jewish Federation and Saul Levinson was delighted to welcome Sue Horowitz and Julie Silver who regaled with Shabbat songs.  Many thanks to Jeri Lipov for capturing these memories for us.

New Member Shabbat 2026

On April 11, 2026 Bet Aviv honored 18 members who joined in the past year. New members participated in the service and were honored under the chupa.  We are grateful to Lou Ebert, Linda Feldmesser and Sally Levin for giving us a lasting memory of this event.

Second Seder 2026

On April 2, Bet Aviv held our annual Second Seder celebration led by Rabbi Linda Joseph.  We are grateful to Bill Salganik and Michael Gray for capturing the evening in photographs and videos.  Click here to see the video clips.

OMI Open Mic Talent Show

On March 22, 2026 OMI held an Open Mic Talent show.  Bet Aviv members Darla Strouse, Bob Hurwitz and Susan Madonna participated.

WBA Women’s Seder 2026

On March 15, 2026, Rabbi Linda Joseph led Sisterhood members in a Women’s Seder.  We are grateful to Linda Feldmesser, Paula Wolkowitz and Darla Strouse for capturing these wonderful memories of the event!

Tu BiShevat Shabbat and Seder 2026

On January 23, 2026 Bet Aviv held it’s annual Tu BiShevat Seder, along with a Shabbat service.  Rabbi Joseph led the service and seder, along with Cantorial Soloist Beth Rubens and accompanist Amy Kwon.  We also sang Happy Birthday to Lori Kassoff.  We are grateful to Sally Levin for taking these wonderful photos!

Scholar in Residence 2025

On May 24, 2025 Rabbi Ken Kanter presented two sessions:  Reform Judaism:  How our History and Culture has Changed Over the Last 200 Years and The Jews of Broadway and Tin Pan Alley.  Rabbi Joseph catered the lunch for us in memory of her father, Peter Joseph.

Passover 2025

On April 13, 2025 Rabbi Joseph led us in fun-filled evening celebrating the Second Night Seder.

Women’s Seder 2025

On April 30, Rabbi Joseph led a Women’s Seder for Women of Bet Aviv Members.  The Seder emphasized our traditions from a woman’s perspective.

Jewish Museum of Maryland

On June 10, a group from Bet Aviv, led by member Nancy Kutler, acting as their docent, visited the Jewish Museum of Maryland to see the building and exhibits.

On June 13, we celebrated our annual Sisterhood Shabbat service where we honor members of Sisterhood.

On July 20, Bet Aviv met on the grounds of The Meeting House to share food and friendship.

Rocklands Farms Winery Event 2025

On August 23, 2025, Bet Aviv visited Rockland Farms Winery for Mediterranean BBQ from a food truck or BYO dinner and optional wine tasting.

Bet Aviv Trip to Philadelphia

On September 7, Bet Aviv traveled to Philadelphia and toured synagogues, museums and neighborhoods.

Selichot 2025

On Sept 13, 2025 Bet Aviv held a Selichot service to usher in the High Holidays, watched “A Narrow Bridge”. a movie that explores the deep internal conflicts experience by both Israelis and Palestinians and had a virtual interview with the film’s director, Esther Takac, who lives in Australia and is a friend of Rabbi Joseph.

Fabulous 50s Soiree

On September 14, 2025, Bet Aviv Singles held a “Fabulous 50s Soiree” where some dressed in 50s attire, played 50s games and ate 50s food.

Sisterhood Kickoff 2025

On September 16, Bet Aviv Sisterhood held their annual kickoff meeting for members.  This year’s meeting featured Chef Egg, Erik Berlin who gave us tips on preparing and storing food, entertained us with his humor and best of all fed us with salad, chicken and desert that prepared during the meeting.

Joint Sisterhood and Men’s Club Meeting 2025

On October 5, Bet Aviv’s Sisterhood and Men’s held their annual joint meeting where Bet Aviv member Sally Levin regaled us with fascinating facts and personalized stories about the life and legacy of the American-born Jewish Zionist leader and founder of Hadassah, Henrietta Szold.   Sally presented her great aunt’s story with a presentation entitled “From Baltimore Girl to World Renowned Icon”.

Annual Sukkot Picnic and Shabbat Service 2025

On October 10, Columbia Jewish Congregation, Bet Aviv and Kol Nefesh gathered to celebrate Sukkot by eating together at the Sukkah, followed by a service to celebrate Sukkot and Shabbat.

WBA Program – Empty Bowls and Project Linus

On December 9, members of the Women of Bet Aviv came together to eat soup and then create blankets for Project Linus.

Dec 13, 2025 Adult Education

On December 13, Rabbi Joseph led an Adult Education session that discussed the question “Are we superstitious?”

Victoria’s Retirement Shabbat

On December 5, Bet Aviv celebrated the service of long-time Oakland Mills Interfaith Center employee Victoria Galindez, as she prepares to retire.  Rabbi Joseph created the lyrics for a song in her honor, we signed a huge card with our thanks and gave Victoria a monetary gift.  We all formed a circle with her to express our thanks and warm feelings.  We will miss her smile and hearty Shabbat Shalom when she has retired on Dec 31, 2025.

2025 Chanukah Party

On December 19, 2025 Bet Aviv celebrated Chanukah with a dinner, a service and singing by our choir.
